Fashion Trends for Sunglasses

Summer has officially arrived and people all over are sporting sunglasses as their staple accessory. While people, by all means, wear sunglasses in the colder months as well, it is important to always have a pair of sunglasses on hand to protect your eyes from the sun, especially during the hot summer. Not only do sunglasses offer protection, they also are a favored stylish accessory. Summertime calls for more bright and colorful clothing, and so, we can assume that similar sunglasses will also be in style this season, too.

Some of us are addicted to adding new sunglasses to our wardrobes. Finding the perfect pair of sunglasses can be difficult, and trying to follow the new trends can make the process even more daunting. Luckily, we have compiled all different types of sunglasses that are in style for the summer of 2018 to make the process much easier for you!

Shapes

The most popular shape featured on the runway for this season was the large cat eye frame. This is a very flattering look for many face types, as it elongates the face. Its retro vibe will also never go out of style. This also includes more extreme cat eye frames, which have sharper angles.

Round frames are also in style for the spring and summer season. Both large and small frames have become popular. Rounder frames offer a softer look for those who prefer it. Aviators and square frames, though not as popular as cat-eye and round sunglasses, are also in style this season.

There are many different types of styles for round and cat-eye sunglasses, including larger or smaller frames, so it ultimately depends on what looks best on you!

Colors

Multicolor frames were some of the most trendy for this season. Some of the glasses seen on the runway were tri-colored, and others were one-color on the top half, and clear on the bottom half. White sunglasses, which were highly popular in the 1970s, have also made a comeback, as well as tortoiseshell and yellow sunglasses.

Tortoiseshell sunglasses are some of the most simple sunglasses to style any outfit with, and if more bold colors scare you, then perhaps try and opt for a pair of tortoiseshell sunglasses. Not only are they easily adaptable to your face shape, but they offer a softer alternative to some of the more bold shades that are in style now. Particularly yellow and brown tortoiseshell glasses were seen a lot on the runway.

Basically, any color sunglasses are highly in fashion this season. Buy yourself a few sunglasses in as many colors as you would like. Not only are they in style, but they also will match all the different colorful outfits that you will surely be wearing this summer. There were also many designers who featured sunglasses with solid frames in neutral colors in their collections this season. Nude sunglasses, which will match almost any outfit, were spotted quite frequently.

And of course, black sunglasses are in style this season. It seems that black sunglasses are timeless, and ones that most people opt for, especially for their first pair of sunglasses. You can never go wrong with a black pair of sunglasses if all else fails.

Materials

Besides the timeless plastic frames, one of the most popular materials seen on the runway for sunglasses were wire frames. For some designs, this is a classic option. Many thin, wire-framed sunglasses have been popping up lately, and have been coming back in style. There have been lots of metallic materials featured on the runway for the spring and summer of 2018. Rimless sunglasses are also in style this season, too.

A more unique style that was featured on the runway was clip-on sunglasses. These allow you to merge your prescription glasses and your sunglasses together so you can wear them both at once. Square clip-on frames look better on round faces, meanwhile round clip-ons flatter square and diamond-shaped faces best.

Lenses

Tinted lenses have been one of the biggest trends for lenses over the past several years, and don’t appear to be going anywhere any time soon. Pastel colors for lenses have been the most popular, including colors such as pink, burnt orange, blue, and yellow.

Red-colored sunglasses with transparent lenses have also come back in style. In the past, sunglasses with frames that no one could see through were popular, but now, see-through lenses are making a comeback. This shows people that you indeed want to be seen.

Yellow, brown, and pink lenses were also some of the most popular colored lenses to appear this season. Brown lenses in particular flatter almost everyone, and also will protect your eyes from the harmful rays of the sun. Pink lenses offer a more feminine and unique look.

And of course, the ever-timeless mirrored lenses were also featured on the runway. Mirrored sunglasses are bound to never go out of style. The sunglasses just give off a mysterious vibe, showing that you don’t want to be bothered.

Sizes

Oversized sunglasses have been featured the most this season. Large sunglasses are coming back in style for both men and women. These offer the best protection from the sun, as no part of your eyes will remain uncovered or exposed to the sunlight. And if large sunglasses overwhelm you, large sunglasses with softer shapes, such as round sunglasses, were seen on the runway for this season. Whether the style is aviator, round, square, or cat-eye, oversized frames are highly popular. On the other hand, smaller sized sunglasses also came up quite often.

Of course, you can never go wrong with your favorite pair of sunglasses. These are just simple guidelines!
